Shining Light Players Team Member
Standards and Expectations
Our number one goal is to love God, and to know Him better. Our secondary purpose is to show Christ's love to each other and to our audiences. We want a "ministry" mindset. We strive to create excellent theatrical art, because God is the most excellent Artist and we want to represent Him well, but we find when we focus on pleasing God first it takes a lot of pressure off of us as performers.
We strive for a relaxed family atmosphere at SLP, but in order to be respectful of each other we have some guidelines and standards we expect our team members to live by:
- Be respectful of one another in all communications. (This includes in person, text, email, and social media communications.) Colossians 4:6 Let your speech be alway with grace, seasoned with salt, that ye may know how ye ought to answer every man.
- Dress appropriately for the situation. Rehearsal clothes should be comfortable and modest. Class dress should be neat and professional according to the activity of the class. When leading a rehearsal or directing apprentices will be expected to dress professionally.
- Work as a team to get the job done. No one should have a "star" attitude, but rather we must remember that we are each a member of the body of Christ. I Corinthians 12: 25-26 ...There should be no schism in the body; but that the members should have the same care one of another. And whether one member suffer, all the members suffer with it; of if one member be honored, all the members rejoice with it..."
- Respect the leadership of Shining Light Players: Stephen and Alisha Burke, your teachers, coaches and directors. Support their decisions and be careful not to create conflict among the team. If there is a decision you cannot support, you will be expected to honestly and respectfully address it with the leadership, and not to bring others on the team into the discussion. Philippians 2: 14-15 Do all things without murmurings and disputings: that ye may be blameless and harmless, the sons of God, without rebuke, in the midst of a crooked and perverse nation, among whom ye
shine as lights in the world.
- Communicate your needs. We strive to have a servant attitude, but no one should feel unsafe or have their physical or health needs jeopardized.
- We understand that there is room within Christian living for variety in tastes and even personal standards in music, films/television/videos, books, etc... but there are also things which no Christian should participate in or welcome into their mind. Apprentices are expected to evaluate their media/entertainment consumption according to Philippians 4:8: Finally brethren, whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are honest, whatsoever things are just, whatsoever things are pure, whatsoever things are lovely, whatsoever things are of good report; if there be any virtue and if there be any praise, think on these things.
-Apprentices should regularly attend, and be actively involved in a local, Bible believing Church.
-This program is focused first of all on serving God. Be careful not to neglect your personal Bible study and prayer time each day- not as an act of duty, but as the opportunity to grow closer to God and become the person He created you to be.
"God is more interested in the person you are becoming, than your work or your ministry or your job."- Dallas Willard
